CNC-LightPlasma

Light-Plasma is a compact, self-built CNC plasma cutter designed for small spaces.

This digital package contains everything you need to build the machine: 3D models of every part and assembly, the necessary drawings, and a bill of materials with purchase links and price estimates included. A clear assembly and getting started guide is included in both English and Finnish, covering the mechanics, the electronics and the software setup. Order the components, print the printed parts and build your own CNC plasma cutter!

Technical specifications

• Cutting area approximately 700 x 700 mm, adjustable by choosing different rail and extrusion lengths
• 4 axes: X, Y, Z and A (A slaved to X), driven by 3 x NEMA 23 and 1 x NEMA 17 motors
• Control electronics: Mach3 USB breakout board and DM542 drivers (HLTNC kit, from around 118 €, direct link in the BOM)
• Software: Mach3 (control) and SheetCAM (CAM); the frame does not limit your choice of control electronics
• Frame: aluminium extrusion, 3D printed parts and off-the-shelf components
• Component cost approximately 500 € (excluding the 3D printed parts)

What you need to build it

• Basic hand tools
• An FDM 3D printer with a build volume of at least 220 x 220 x 220 mm, printing in PETG or ABS
• A Windows PC to run the machine (Mach3 and SheetCAM)
• A plasma cutter with blowback start. HF start machines are not suitable due to electrical interference (our recommendation: Everlast PowerPlasma 62i with the CNC package)
